Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Cocktails

Red is the definite color of Valentine’s Day – the red of a beating heart, a red rose or a Cosmopolitan.

The Classic Cosmo (as made famous in Sex and the City) is made as follows and has become a classic red Valentines Day cocktail.

4 parts vodka
2 parts triple sec
2 parts cranberry juice
1 part fresh lime juice

Combine all of these ingredients into a cocktail shaker along with some ice and shake well. Strain into a martini glass to serve – beautiful.

Now with Valentine’s Day approaching there are different variations on the Cosmopolitan which are very delicious including one that really intensifies the color red in the cocktail which is aptly named the Valentine’s Day Cosmo. This cocktail, along with other delicious (and red) Valentine’s Day cocktails can be found at Top Five Red Cocktails for Valentine’s Day.

Pink is also a popular color for Valentine’s Day as it represents the blushing that sometimes accompanies the first flush of love that a couple feel for one another. Pink is basically just a very soft and romantic color.

The Pink Squirrel (I have no idea where that name came from, I’d rename it something more romantic if you’re serving it up!) combines the lovely pink color along with a creamy chocolate flavor. To me Valentine’s Day and chocolate go hand in hand so this cocktail wins on so many points.

Pink Squirrel

1 shot grenadine
1 shot white crème de cacao
1 shot half and half

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, along with some ice, and shake well. Strain into a martini glass to serve and enjoy! This goes really well when accompanied by some chocolate covered strawberries if you really want to impress 🙂

Now because you shake these ingredients together you don’t need to make up half and half if you don’t want to – I often ‘cheat’ myself – just put ½ shot of milk and ½ shot of cream into the shaker instead.

If you fancy the sound of a Blushtini as your pink Valentine’s Day cocktail of choice, or you just want to have a look at a good selection then you’ll want to check out Valentine’s Day Cocktails.
