Baileys – Cocktails & Shots for St Patty’s Day

March 5, 2009

Baileys Irish Cream, you just have to have some on St Patrick's Day. It's hard to believe that this liqueur has only been around since the 1970s - it is so important in the making of creamy cocktails and delicious shots!

Made with the finest Irish cream, whiskey and chocolate Baileys is one of my favorite liqueurs. One of the main reasons is that it 'mixes well' with most other spirits. It is also delicious on it's own, especially the different flavors that are now available.

Anyway I always think that St Patrick's Day is a great excuse to crack open a bottle of Baileys and make some cocktails. There are heaps of Baileys Cocktails around and also Baileys Shots and Shooters.

A delicious one that I will be drinking this St Patrick's Day is a Choc Caramel Bunny.

Choc Caramel Bunny
1 shot Baileys Caramel
1 shot Kahlua
chocolate milk

Shake the Baileys and Kahlua with ice in a shaker and then strain into a highball glass. Top up with chocolate milk - delicious!

St Patricks Day – Go Green!

March 2, 2009

Well it’s March already and if you haven’t already done so you need to start thinking about St Patrick’s Day. Are you going to throw a St Patrick’s Day Party this year? Or go out somewhere?

I was going to offer a St Patrick’s Day cocktail in this post, but I thought that would be too predictable (and there’s plenty of more posts to do that in!!) instead I thought who was St Patrick? One of the things I remember is that he drove all of the snakes out of Ireland. (As a little nugget of trivia Ireland and New Zealand are the only two countries in the world that have no snakes living in them!) What do you do to honor the man who can drive away snakes – you make a snakebite!

Snakebite

1/2 pint lager
1/2 pint cider
1 shot blackcurrant syrup

Pour the blackcurrant syrup into the bottom of the glass, next pour in the lager followed by the cider – delicious.

Lady GaGa Zabaglione Martini

March 2, 2009

Well Lady GaGa has been in the news quite a bit of late and the other day I was reading about her loves – David Bowie’s Let’s Dance – good choice, YSL bags - I’m with you there girl and Italian food. Lady GaGa has gone up in my estimation AND she can sing! Now if only someone could talk to her about her fashion sense because the big hair bow only really works on Minnie Mouse!

Anyway this is supposed to be about cocktails and I’m getting sidetracked. Lady GaGa obviously likes to go out and get drunk (listen to her song Let’s Dance) and she loves Italian food. I’ve taken this on board and decided that she needs a Zabaglione Martini!

Zabaglione Martini

2 shots advocaat
1 shot marsala
1/2 shot cognac
3/4 shot fresh lemon juice
1 fresh egg yolk

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass to serve.
