Valentine’s Day Cocktails

Well Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it – what are you doing to celebrate? I find cocktails are always good whether you’re single and happy, single and sad, in a couple and loving it, or in a couple and hating it. Let’s face it cocktails are always a good thing – hic!

There are always the clichéd ones that you can get when visiting a cocktail bar around the 14th of February such as Love Potion # 9 and now I have thought of that the song is stuck in my head so let’s go with Love Potions today.

Love Potion #9
2 parts Tia Maria
2 parts Galliano
1 part cream

Layer the ingredients into a shot glass in the above order.

There are a range of other Valentine’s Day Cocktails including strawberry (the food of love), chocolate (more love food) and champagne (to celebrate love) cocktails. Of course the person you love may not even drink in which case check out the Mocktail of the Month at Mocktails.

Celebrating Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day (February 6th) is a national holiday in NZ and celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. It is also my wedding anniversary so I’l going to kick off by giving you this recipe:-

Black Velvet

½ pint Champagne
½ pint Guiness

Make sure both ingredients are chilled and pour them both into a highball glass at the same time. Do not stir.

Champagne is to celebrate my anniversary and the Guiness is for the black color. It’s not because I’m in mourning………..it’s because of the All Blacks. The All Blacks are a symbol of NZ that is known worldwide.

Personally when it comes to celebrating I feel that a glass (or bottle) of champagne is abit passe, so last millenium! I’d rather try a Champagne Cocktail - much more fun!
